FREDI'S MALI MISERY
Thursday 12 February, 2004
Fredi Kanoute's African Nations Cup dream came to an end on Wednesday evening (Feb 11), when Mali slumped to a 4-0 defeat against Morocco in the semi-final of the tournament.
Having been tipped to go all the way on the back of Kanoute's striking power that has seen him top the ANC scoring chart with four goals, Mali were left heartbroken after suffering their third semi-final exit in the competition following disappointment in 1994 and 2002.
Morocco go on to face hosts Tunisia in the final on Saturday, but Fredi won't be flying home for a reunion with Jermain Defoe and Tottenham Hotspur just yet.
He will play in the third-place play-off against Nigeria on Friday.
